In the 17th century Europe experienced another precipitous climatic change, this time global cooling. This period is now called "the mini Ice Age", and caused another period of migration... this time Europeans coming to the New World to harvest beaver pelts to make warm cloaks for the wealthy back in Europe.

This source says nothing about the temperature changes, however, a quick trip to Wikipedia shows that this period was not true global climate change, but a local disruption of the thermohaline circulation, aka global currents.

"Initial research on the MWP and the following Little Ice Age (LIA) was largely done in Europe, where the phenomenon was most obvious and clearly documented. It was initially believed that the temperature changes were global.[2] However, this view has been questioned; the 2001 IPCC report summarises this research, saying "…current evidence does not support globally synchronous periods of anomalous cold or warmth over this time frame, and the conventional terms of 'Little Ice Age' and 'Medieval Warm Period' appear to have limited utility in describing trends in hemispheric or global mean temperature changes in past centuries".[3] Global temperature records taken from ice cores, tree rings, and lake deposits, have shown that, taken globally, the Earth may have been slightly cooler (by 0.03 degrees Celsius) during the 'Medieval Warm Period' than in the early- and mid-20th century.[4] Crowley and Lowery (2000) [5] note that "there is insufficient documentation as to its existence in the Southern hemisphere.""

"A radiocarbon-dated box core in the Sargasso Sea shows that the sea surface temperature was approximately 1 °C (1.8 °F) cooler than today approximately 400 years ago (the Little Ice Age) and 1700 years ago, and approximately 1 °C warmer than today 1000 years ago (the Medieval Warm Period).[7]

"During the MWP wine grapes were grown in Europe as far north as southern Britain.[8][9][10][11] For comparison: today vine is grown as far north as Gotland, a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea[12]."

Now, I know this is a bit more difficult to comprehend than the third grade material in your source, but the essence is that global temperatures during those periods didn't vary more than 1 degree from last century, but that the Gulf Stream (the current which warms Northern Europe, and brings ice to Greenland and Northern Americas, was temporarily disrupted, causing local variations in temperature.

Now, look at this chart:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2000_Year_Temperature_Comparison.png

It clearly shows that these "natural" fluctuations are nothing compared to the last 50-100 years, coincidentally the time when man has produced the most greenhouse gases.

You fail to understand that there are more than one cause of warming. Sunspots have caused natural cycles over 1000s of years. Pollution has caused this current UNNATURAL cycle. It's unnatural because it is happening more quickly than normal cycles and is more severe. It is a fact that increased greenhouse gases cause warming and it is a fact that humans caused these increased greenhouse gases. It is absurd for you to say that this is not caused by humans.

Repeating Global Warming, Inc. mantras does not make something "fact". Sudden "unnatural" temperature fluctuations, of a greater severity than what we are now experiencing, happened in the 8th and 17th centuries, and who now how many times before that. Were the Vikings guilty of not signing the Kyoto Accords?
