Re: VLBC: Mellencamp's Upcoming Album and Tour

no, I sure don't mind cwb. I've always been a fan of T-Bone's
production but was blown away after seeing Robert Plant and Allison
Krauss on CMT's Crossroads. It was raw, mysterious, haunting, rocking
and passionately performed by all. It led me to finally get the
Raising Sands CD which hasn't left my car CD player in months. And
like I said over <<<< I'm hoping Bruce will hire T-Bone to produce his
next studio effort.

Looking forward to hear the great T-Bone Burnett's take on
Mellencamp's music. Sounds like a good match.

It does. It'll come down to the *songs* I guess. Read an interesting
quote from Mr. Mellonhead about his upcoming tour. Bascially he said
(para-quoting) "this will a lot more about *music* than showbiz." I'm
curious what brought on this intended change. Could be as simple as
knowing the new album is going to be a lowkey affair, or maybe
something/one else influenced him. (Not Springsteen, though I would
say his current show has cut way down quite a bit on the overt "show"
aspect (very little schtick, not much posturing, etc.).  But
regardless, considering his shows have literally had the setlists
laminated on the back of his programs the past few tours, and his
general lack of performance urgency behind those setlists, this seems
like it'll be a plus (whatever the impetus).  Again, it'll probably
come down to the quality of the  songs on the new album. But hey, come
to think of it, the fact that he's even planning to include (I assume)
a lot of new songs in the set is a nice step forward.

And his songs better be good-- he's got Lucinda Williams opening up
for him. :)

(who will be likely skipping the chicago show anyway as it's at a
horrid --if you live in the norhern suburbs anyway, a million miles
away-- shed: charter one pavillion)

PS on T-Bone Burnett...

He's currently touring in Robert Plant and Allison Krauss' band. And
if that weren't enough (of an added kick), Buddy Miller's on the other
guitar!

Looking more fwd to this show than any other in recent memory...even
including his Bruceness!
