I heard that tis years superbowl was the only one ever with three (opr
was it four) lead changes in the fourth quarter. Then looking at the
box scores I realized, every score in the game resulted in a lead
change, and I"m wondering if that happens often, but I'm not wondring
quite enough to look over all the superbowl scores. In sauch a game,
no one the lead coule never have been more than six or seven points at
any given time, and no team could score twice in a row.

I wonder if such games often occur, o if it was a real rarity. I know
during th regular season, there's usually a couple games here and
there that seem to really go back and forth, but how often does every
single score result in a lead change?

I'll wait, ....get back to me on it as soon you're able. :)

* in every game where the final score was 2-0, 3-0, 3-2,
* in almost every game where the final was 7-0 (the exception being any
game where the 7 came from 2 safeties and a FG)
* in games where the score was 7-2 or 7-3, but only if the 2 or 3 came
first

OK, which games are those.... ????

a little bit more poking around - in order for this to work, a game has to
have a margin of no more than 8 points (more than 8, and somebody scored
twice in a row, which means the lead never changed hands) - and no one could
have consecutive scoring plays. Actually, you only need the second
condition, but it's easy to get rid of ineligible games by eliminating those
with more than an 8 point margin. And just because they alternate scores,
they still don't necessarily keep passing each other, changing leads

In week 1 of 2007, there were 16 games
6 had margins of 8 or less
1 had a lead change, sort of, on every score - the Dolphins vs the REdskins.
But in that game, the lead changes involved ties - from 0-0 to 3-0 to 3-7 to
10-7 to 10-10, etc.

In week 2 of 2007, there were 16 games
9 had margins of 8 or less
1 (titans-colts) involved teams alternating scores, but since that involved
7-0 to 7-3 to 14-3, the Colts had the lead on all 3... so that's no good.
0 met your conditions

In short, that's 2 weeks, 32 games and either 0 or 1 met your condition. Now
that's a pretty small sample (actually, it's not bad for the season, 2/17,
but pretty small for the last 5 or 10 years), but it does give some
indication that it is not a very common occurrence
