STRANGELOVE...Do you honestly think that all Western European countries (except for the UK), Japan and China, amongst others, banned fluoride in water because of a conspiracy theory? There is solid evidence that ingesting fluoride is harmful, especially to infants, children and those over 50, and that it causes the rare bone cancer one of the Kennedys had. The "optimal" dose is based on an adult's weight, so especially if infants are given fluoridated water mixed into their formula, they are getting a toxic dose."Fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face."
"Fluoridation attracted opponents from every point on the continuum of politics and sanity. The prospect of the government mass-medicating the water supplies with a well-known rat poison to prevent a non-lethal disease flipped the switches of delusionals across the country--as well as generating concern among responsible scientists, doctors, and citizens.
"Moreover, by a fortuitous twist of circumstances, fluoride's natural opponents on the left were alienated from the rest of the opposition. Oscar Ewing, as Federal Security Agency administrator, was a Truman "fair dealer" who pushed many progressive programs such as nationalized medicine. Fluoridation was lumped with his proposals. Inevitably, it was attacked by conservatives as a manifestation of "creeping socialism," while the left rallied to its support. Later during the McCarthy era, the left was further alienated from the opposition when extreme right-wing groups, including the John Birch Society and the Ku Klux Klan, raved that fluoridation was a plot by the Soviet Union and/or communists in the government to poison America's brain cells. "
Don't let this rather funny association keep you from looking at the facts... which are that almost all nations have looked at the evidence of links with cancer, hip and bone fractures and toxic doses in children and banned this poison from their water.

You mean "almost all nations except for the numerous ones which someone else listed as still allowing flouride in their water, despite what I said initially", right?
There are only a handful (14, including 2 city-states), and the same source showed 25 European nations as opposed to only the UK and Ireland as holdouts, have banned it. 25 out of 27 European countries... I think that's clearly almost all countries in Europe. As for the other 12 countries, out of 194 countries in the world? You don't think it's fair to say almost all?
My point is that these countries didn't ban fluoridation because they think it's a communist plot; they did it because there is plenty of evidence that it is harmful to some (babies, children, elderly) and NO benefit, except to the companies who get paid to dump their toxic waste into our water.
Robert, you certainly are entitled to disagree and present contrary info, but your pitiful attempts to simply take a small piece of what I say and try and prove it wrong is well, pitiful. Why can't we have an intelligent discussion on something as important as this is to our health? I'm sure you would be the first to yell if there were lead in your water, or if toxic waste were being dumped next door to you. Why do liberals continually fail to see this as an environmental and health hazard?
Laurie
