Sometimes what will cure teenage depression is having those
dasm hormones calm down! Who knows.

I'm jumping into the middle of this thread, having not read most of it. So,
apologies if this has already been discussed.

Two things linked to the rise in depression among children & teenagers
(adults as well, of course): lack of regular aerobic exercise, and lack of
contact with the natural world.

For any new parent, there's a fantastic book called: "Last Child In The
Woods," (Saving Our Children From Nature Deficit Disorder) by Richard Louv.
This is a must read for any parent looking to lower the odds of raising a
fat, depressed, ADD type kid.

I'm not suggesting that exercise & nature are *everybody's* answer. I am
suggesting that a lack of regular aerobic exercise and disconnection from
nature are proven links to the current epidemic in childhood & teenage
obesity, ADD & depression; and the book referenced above does provide young
parents with a set of strategies for dealing with this reality of our modern
world.
