I like the iPod itself but the iTunes interface software absolutely sucks
ass. For me, that itself is a major drawback to the whole iPod
"experience," imo as you pretty much have to use iTunes to move files on and
off the iPod.
One of my biggest headaches is dealing with syncing the iPod on several
different pcs or laptops. You *must* have the same music/movies/playlists
on all devices you sync to or you run the eventual likelihood of iTunes
wiping your iPod drive and possibly even your media stored on that pc folder
iTunes is linked to and replacing the stored media with whatever is one the
pc you're syncing with. Even if you have the iTunes settings for not
automatically syncing, sometimes downloaded program updates reset those
settings. Worse, you can't upload say, one media file through iTunes to a
iPod that's been synced and loaded with media from another pc without iTunes
wiping the entire iPod drive to add that one file. It's designed to prevent
easy swapping and copying of media files between pcs but it's really just a
bullshit pain-in-the-ass feature.
Plus, iPods play only MP4 video media - if you want to view say a Windows
Media video, you gotta use some software and convert it to an MP4 file
before uploading it to the iPod.
I'm sure there's workarounds and hacks for all the above issues but that
shouldn't be the point of buying such an over-priced product supposedly
designed for ease of use.
I place iPods right up there with Bose speaker products and Monster Cable as
the biggest scams foisted on ignorant home electronics consumers in the past
20 years.
T.B.
Agreed on the Bose and Monster Cable. Helped a friend of mine
install a new system a few months ago and made him return the monster
cables.

Zune isn't WiFi, it's Infrared. This allows Zune owners to synch
wirelessly to share music samples. Also, there is significant room in
the firmware for future upgrades and in the lond run, with the Windows
Media Player synching and ease of use, I think Microsoft has a hit on
it's hand.
I just bought two through Dell at $96.00 per dlvd (they arrive on
Wednesday) via a shortlived offer. Should've grabbed a few more as
they're still going strong at $150.00 on eBay.
The only drawback at this time is the size, but I'm not into having
all of my music in a matchbook sized unit.
