Re: I guess the Rockies didn't pray to the right God

I assume this is from 2006, but still interesting and somewhat
surprising.

Well, someone is using somebody, but it ain't God. San Francisco Giants
first baseman-outfielder Mark Sweeney, who spent 2003 and 2004 with the
Rockies, said, "You wonder if some people are going along with it just to
keep their jobs. Look, I pray every day. I have faith. It's always been part
of my life. But I don't want something forced on me. Do they really have to
check to see whether I have a Playboy in my locker?"

And I thought banning facial hair was a bit beyond the pale for
owners!

Given that Colorado is also home to the Air Force Academy's
problematic and aggressive strain of Christianity (Google "air force
academy Christian" and pick a few articles) plus the mega-churches
such as the one formerly led by the now-infamous Ted Haggard, this
can't be a coincidence. It's hard to say that the club is bowing to
the community. Probably more accurate to say that ownership is simply
representative of the community.

O'Dowd, who also received a contract extension, believes that their 27-26
2006 record has resulted from the active intervention of the Almighty. "You look at some of the games we're winning.> Those aren't just a coincidence. God has definitely had a hand in this."

I never know what to say to this kind of thing. I'd be more
embarrassed for them, but hey, it's not like it's that consequential
in the overall scheme of things. I mean, other than feeling bad for
the non-Christians who have to deal with that kind of environment.
