I was just thinking about the whole "Shut Up and Sing vs Free to Voice
his Opinions" debate. I was thinking about how if you went to some
rally and Jesse Jackson for example got up to speak out against some
issue, you would probably welcome it if you were at a rally with
Jesses Jackson because it would tend to mean that you supported
whatever issue the rally was in favor of. I understand that Bruce has
the right to speak his mind and in fact think that the 60 minutes
interview is a great place to do it. I started thinking about the
fans that are not on this newsgroup, the so called casual fans like
the some 10 Million in the US that bought the Born in the USA album.
When Bruce makes speeches during the show about helping to feed the
Hungry or clothe the Homeless these are Universal Issues that everyone
at the show should be in support of. When he starts rattling on about
essentially partisan views, he is most likely not going to get a warm
response from somewhere between say 40 and 48 percent of the
audience. Now when he chooses to play the Vote For Change shows, the
people who go there should understand that these shows are for the
purpose of attempting to get the current administration out of office,
but at the E Street Band shows a large percentage of the quote/unqoute
casual fans in the audience did not come to the show expecting to hear
an essentially partisan based argument. Now if Bruce is concerned
about the Constitution and Bill of Rights and can gently point out
that we need to be careful about supporting changes that go against
these principles without just sounding like he is on a Bush bashing
speal, that would seem to be not offensive to 40 - 48 percent of the
audience.
