John Hiatt's "Drive South"

A bit too much like covering John Prine :-)
Maybe it would have fit into the sense of
humor he cultivated on the Joad tour, though.

Mike

Perhaps you're right.

Or not, or at least not the way I thought I was :-) I have to correct
myself
a bit here, as for some reason (not having the album on cd and not
hearing it as much as I used to sounds like a good enough reason)
I was actually thinking of Trudy and Dave, which is a hell of a lot
more Prine-like than Drive South is!

I love that song, though.

Ditto, now that I have the right one in my head.

I'd prefer a cover of "Tennessee Plates," myself.

OK, so for a different Hiatt choice,
there is the obvious "Riding With the King," which is not high on my
list
of favorites... there is also "All the Lilacs in Ohio," which may or may
not suit Bruce's style, but I just love that song, and also "Rock Back
Billy" which I like to pair up with "Stand On It" when I play that great
jukebox in my head.

Rock Back Billy would be the only one I think Bruce would do well.
Maybe he could manage Have a Little Faith in Me - and dedicate
it to his audience :-)

"Sometime Other Than Now," my brother. I've actually thought that would be
a good cover for Bruce for a long time. Hadn't thought of it in a while,
though.

I guess I just don't hear Bruce doing Hiatt in my head, Kevin.
Not sure exactly why - I don't hear him doing Elvis either but
he can pull it off.

On the other hand, Bruce has ignored so many of his own songs
over the years that I'd prefer to hear him cover himself than
someone else :-) If he does choose a cover, I want it to have
the kind of impact that Who'll Stop the Rain did in the
opening set in Sacramento, rather than just "Oh, I heard
this the other night and thought it'd fit well in the set."

Bruce's own:
Price You Pay

Covers:
Eve of Destruction (as I mentioned earlier)
It's My Life (I miss him doing this one . . .) and dedicate it to
Postal
Have a Little Faith in Me (if he's going to do a John Hiatt song,
imagine this solo on piano to open the show and lead in to "Magic" as
the opener)
The Boys Are Back in Town
Try (Just a Little Bit Harder)

Rave On!
Scott
