There hasn't been any sort of real leak from an insider in more than a
week, maybe two.
This leads me to one of two conclusions, which may be just one
conclusion: our "insiders" really don't know anything, or that
everything they thought they knew was wrong.
You would think as we got closer to a supposed press release and
single release, and all the attendant press and photo shoots and video
shoots that need to be lined up to go with it, there would be more
information trickling out, not less to none.
Sure the anticipation is fun. But stepping back, this is a little
ridiculous. There's been rampant speculation everywhere - from fan
boards to the music media to the mainstream media.
Would it kill Landau or Springsteen to issue some sort of statement,
even if its vague? Again, I'm a marketing professional. Sending a
line to the media like, "We know that the public is very excited to
know the next artistic move of Bruce Springsteen. We are working on
delivering a project that lives up to high standards of his fanbase.
Details will be available soon."
This would continue the publicity, cue people who couldn't care less
that this might be something worth getting excited about, and re-
inforce the idea that Springsteen is a careful artist that only puts
out high-quality material.
Plus, it would make his diehard fans, which he seems to care less
about than other musicians and bands, happy. And, if anyone wants a
comparison which will make that statement accurate, look at all the
songs Lil' Wayne has released free in the last year, or Prince giving
away his last record via an insert in The Mail.
In fact, if you're a NYTimes online subscriber, this article on Prince
is a great counterpoint to the Springsteen Machine:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/22/arts/music/22pare.html?ex=118732320...
"He doesn't have to go multiplatinum - he's multiplatform."
So what you're saying is they should make an announcement about making
an announcement? Absurd.
There is an album coming. It is scheduled to be released on Oct 2.
Sure, that's subject to change until there is a press release but
several European offices for Sony have already confirmed an Oct 1
release date there (which is an Oct 2 release here). Bruce normally
announces albums 6-8 weeks in advance. I don't think the lack of a
press release confirming the album is even remotely interesting or
notable at this point.
There is a tour coming. Venues are being booked. Contracts are being
signed. The Paris date is officially announced on the Bercy website
(this is clearly a mistake that the venue posted it prior to the tour
announcement). It is an E Street Band tour.
This is how the Springsteen organization has worked for decades now.
They have an artist who has the power to do what he wishes and is
prone to changing his mind. As we saw in Blood Brothers, they are not
going to make any announcement until they are 100% ready to.
In the age of the Internet, the above info has been reported by
various people in various places and is widely known. 20 years ago,
you wouldn't have known it so you wouldn't be freaking out about an
announcement. So the solution is if the waiting is going to be that
difficult for you, don't read these fan boards.- Hide quoted text -
