Tech woes force many to wander for work
IT unemployment now exceeds overall jobless rate

Things have actually improved a great deal. As of April, 2007, the
overall IT unemployment rate averaged 2.3% for the prior 4 quarters,
down from 5.8% for the first 9 months of 2003. That being said,
without a doubt, a career predominantly in computer
programming/analysis isn't anything near what it used to be, and that
is entirely due to offshoring to India and the use/exploitation of
H-1B Visas to bring people from India into the United States.

If not for India, increasing numbers of computer programming/analysis
jobs would probably now offer pay at levels close to what doctors make
because demand for such talent would be growing at a greater rate than
domestic supply would. And I certainly wouldn't mind that as that is
what I do. But while that would be very good for me and for computer
programmer/analysts in general, would it be good for the far larger
amount of people who are employed in other parts of the economy?
