Re: LINYC and/or Barcelona on Blu Ray?

Yeah,I went with Blu Ray only because I want to play games AND watch movies.
Plus, I have always had a Playstation. Not that their better than Xbox, Im
just used to it. If HD ends up winning out in the long run...so be
it...players will be cheap enough by that point it wont matter. I agree
with you though, most likely both formats will survive. Then a combo player
will be the way to go. For now though, plenty of movies to watch on both.

Also just fyi, it appears the biggest movie studio that's been a major
holdout on the blu-ray format, Universal (they've only released titles
on HD
dvd so far) is apparently going to support both formats as it's
becoming apparent that the blu-ray format is outselling HD dvds by an
almost 2 - 1
margin, plus the copy protection on blu-ray is significantly better
and has yet to be hacked.>>

Not true. The head of Universal issued a statement today calling
those rumors completely false and reiterating the studio's exclusive
support of HD-DVD.

The sales figures aren't really relevant yet, as they are so small on
both sides, that no studio is going to make long term decisions based
on them. I don't see the format war being settled this year. In
fact, if I was placing a bet, I think that if reasonably priced combo
player enters the market, both will survive just like the recordable
DVD formats. Plus, the HD-DVD players are so much cheaper (a point
made by Universal today) that it's hard to see Blu-Ray gaining
traction yet in the average home.

Also, consider that the PS3 numbers have been far less than impressive
after the initial burst (as in they are awful) and right now Blu-Ray
has an advantage from gamers trying discs. That does not necessarily
translate in any way to the mom and pop who just want a player that
plays movies and doesn't want to spend $600 on a combined game/movie
system.
