no real intro that I could fine as to context, what does "change the world"
mean. (I know none of them cured our dependence on fossil fuels, nor
improved the taste of Brussels sprouts, so they didn't REALLY change the
world...). But definitely some on here that changed the face of popular
music.
I would have put Rappers Delight much higher.
001 Elvis Presley - That's Alright.
002 Ray Charles - I Got A Woman.
003 Chuck Berry - Maybelline.
004 Bob Dylan - A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall.
005 The Kingsmen - Louie Louie.
006 The Ronettes - Be My Baby.
007 The Beatles - I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
008 Martha & The Vandellas - Dancing In The Streets.
009 The Rolling Stones - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction.
010 Bob Dylan - Like A Rolling Stone.
011 The Beatles - Strawberry Fields Forever.
012 The Velvet Underground - Heroin.
013 Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze.
014 Aretha Franklin - Respect.
015 Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love.
016 James Brown - James Brown - Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine.
017 Marvin Gaye - What's Going On.
018 John Lennon - Imagine.
019 David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust.
020 Bob Marley - I Shot The Sheriff.
021 Joni Mitchell - Help Me.
022 Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run.
023 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody.
024 The Ramones - Blitzgrieg Bop.
025 Donna Summer - I Feel Love.
026 The Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK.
027 Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight.
028 Black Flag - TV Party.
029 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean.
030 Prince - When Doves Cry.
031 U2 - Pride (In The Name Of Love).
032 Madonna - Like A Virgin.
033 Run DMC & Aerosmith - Walk This Way.
034 The Cure - Just Like Heaven.
035 Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine.
036 Public Enemy - Bring The Noise.
037 Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit.
038 Dr Dre - Nothing But A G Thang.
039 Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time.
040 White Stripes - Fell In Love With A Girl.
That list is pretty ridiculous...it's like they had to make sure they
got all the right names in there somewhere...
I don't disagree with Elvis being at number one, since I believe he
was the greatest artist ever, and if "Heartbreak Hotel" was on the
list also I would probably feel better, but if an Elvis song changed
the world, I would have to pick "Heartbreak Hotel" over "That's All
Right, Mama." Although it was his first hit and kicked off his
career, "That's All Right..." was mainly popular in the south...it
wasn't until he released "Heartbreak Hotel" on RCA coinciding with his
first national television appearances that the world was forced to
notice.
But Britney Spears? And the White Stripes? And The Cure? And
Guns'N'Roses? Give me a break. But really, can a song change the
world anymore?
