All,
I was re-listening to Winterland this weekend and while I've always
thought the '78 shows were incredible (never seen one, but have listend
to a lot of them). But I was struck by the sheer power of the 2nd half
of the 1st set. The last 4 songs (PROVE IT ALL NIGHT / RACING IN THE
STREET / THUNDER ROAD / JUNGLELAND) and the way they flow into one
another via Roy's piano is just amazing.
I personally have always been partial to the 9/19/78 string of (pick any
four):
Darkness on the edge of town
Independence day
The promised land
Prove it all night
Racing in the street
Thunder road
Meeting across The river
Jungleland
The last 5 are, of course, your 4 plus Meeting - which, as one of my
favorite songs and as one of Bruce's greatest stories ever, makes the set
all that much bettr IMO.
My question, has he ever put together a live set of songs in any of the
following tours to equal this? I can't think of one, though there is
one one that comes close. The reunion tour's (YOUNGSTOWN / MURDER INC.
/ BADLANDS) is good.
Thoughts?
Craig
