I don't believe for a minute that he molested any of her other children; it wouldn't surprise me, but there is no proof. That still does not excuse the fact that he seduced his longtime lover's teenage daughter, who he watched grow up. There are so many wrongs in that, I don't know where to start...

Yep, it's real creepy. But that's their business.
As far as watching his movies, it doesn't affect me a bit.

Well, you know what they say, "There's nothing like a woman scorned..."

"Hell hath no fury ..." Yep, I'm afraid I know that one very well.

I guess if I emphathize with Mia, or any other wronged woman, I can't be objective about the man's art or music... To me, a person is the sum of all he's done, and talent doesn't trump being a good person.

Well, we all draw the line somewhere, I guess. But if you knew your favorite music star had boinked a 16 year old groupie, would that end your interest in his music? Or if you knew your favorite rock star, supposedly the epitome of morality and goodness, had cheated on his wife all over L.A.? It just seems to me that if one lets entertainers' personal lives affect their view of that person's work, you wouldn't have very many entertainers left to enjoy.

Yes, I guess we all draw the line somewhere...

There was a jazz trombone player named Frank Rosalino, whose work I enjoyed tremendously. Later I found out that he had eventually murdered his wife and kids (he had severe mental problems obviously). But listening to that same music after I found this out, it still sounded just exactly as beautiful as it did before I knew.

It probably was... but how can you listen to it without thinking about the innocents he murdered?

No, I wouldn't want Woody to date my teenage daughter, if I had one. I wouldn't want to have him over for dinner either. But "Love And Death" and "Annie Hall" will always be great movies to me.

To me, this statement shows you aren't getting it. It wasn't that Woody boinked a teenager. It wasn't that Woody cheated on his commonlaw wife. It wasn't that he dated "someone's" daughter. He "dated" his OWN daughter. No, they weren't married or even living together, but she was, in effect, his step-daughter. The daughter of his lover. The sister of HIS adopted kids who were living in Mia's household.

Which is worse, Woody boinking his adopted stepdaughter, or the trombone player who murdered his wife and child? I would venture a guess that Burt's point is that the artist shouldn't diminish the art - the art should be viewed on its own. I agree, but it's not like the only reason I like Springsteen is the strict artistic/entertainment value. I won't watch Tom Cruise or Mel Gibson movies, I have no respect for Pat O'Brien and don't listen to him. That stuff DOES influence me. But I wish it didn't. I wish I were more like Burt.
