Geez was Peter Buck wasted or what? Drinking wine during the induction.
Real
class Pete. And tossing an amp into the front row almost hitting a couple
people. The rest of REM are class acts though.
You could tell everyone in the hall was wondering what Sammy Hagar was
doing
on that stage during the closing song (People have the Power). Halls of
Fame
are created to exclude musical lightweights like Hagar but there he is
riding Van Halen's coattails to try to be significant. Eddie Veddar tried
like hell to avoid singing with him. And even skinny Michael Stipe almost
stepped all over his fat ass. And what the hell is he doing singing a
Patti
Smith song about social activism when all he ever sings about is ***
and
tequila?
What an embarrassment.
I saw Sammy as a solo artist back around 84. (I also saw him twice
with Van Hagar). He gave an incredible show. Sammy was a pretty great
Guitar player in his own right. He had a good voice for Hard Rock (I
believe he had more range than David Lee and that his vocal range was
better suited for the keyboard oriented stuff that Eddie was writing
in the mid 80's). Sammy also made a great record with Neil Schon,
Kenny Aaronson and Michael Shrieve. They called it HSAS "Through the
Fire" and it included the song "Standing on Top of the Rock". I think
Sammy has written some excellent Hard Rock songs and some pretty good
ballads over the years. In recent years, he seems to have drifted
towards becoming the harder rocking version of Jimmy Buffett, but he
has had a good career in music. I am not sure what the criteria for
making it to the R n R HOF is. I don't know that you can put Sammy
next to the likes of Bruce, but he has been a fine musician and an
excellent showman.
I have no use for any version of Van Halen, but Sammy Hagar was pretty good
way back when as a member of Montrose. Their first album was great!
Every time I see Sammy Hagar, I'm reminded of that horrible, horrible,
horrible, "I Can't Drive 55" music video. Don't get me started on bad
'80s music videos now ...
