Seriously, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. The terrorists have accomplished what they wanted by making us afraid and causing jamups at airports, and causing us to have to check our laptops, and making people afraid to fly. Why blow up planes when they can make us afraid this way?
Gee. Laurie, I'm not sure the single objective of terrorists is to make us afraid.
It reminds me of Blofeld and James Bond, "No, Mr. Bond, I do not want you to talk. . . .I want you to die."
The objective of a suicide bomber isn't only fear. They don't make themselves shahids unless they can KILL people
who they regard as infidels. Do you think the assholes with the liquid explosives expected to sacrifice themselves for fear, not death?
Of course they have to blow up something once in a while to create the fear.
So what are the dozen ways to get a weapon onto a plane? My clients who work for the TSA are waiting breathelessly for you to step forward.
Already discussed in another post. I'm quite sure if you really thought about it, you could come up with a few yourself.
The two suggestions you gave are silly. Since they sealed cockpits, no one is going anywhere with a broken bottle.
Exactly my point. Yet they continued to ban nail scissors and search through hand luggage looking for these "weapons". What was the point? They could allow guns on board after they reinforced the cockpits. It's useless and designed to scare people.
As far as the original suggestion of having an "inside operative," the screening process for "inside people" is far different from what it was
a few years ago.
How? All the Philippinos at SFO who used to be security guards are now pushing wheelchairs through security without being checked. Do you think there might be maybe ONE who might be bribed? Or threatened? Or, perhaps, be a muslim sympathizer?
So now come up with the dozens of ways, Laurie. And you can omit the silly, the impractical, and the redundant.>
You will find anything I say in one of those categories. Because anyone who dares criticize Israel is just plain ignorant.
As far as security "not preventing anyone determined to crash a plane," do you believe that locking cockpits makes no difference? That was a security measure.
That was the only one which did any good. It should have been done a long time ago, and taking away nail scissors is now unnecessary.
Last time I looked, the let nail clippers back on the planes, for precisely that reason. Not every bit of progress is as instant as your
fertile mind would like, no doubt.
Gee, maybe they'll put the dull metal knives back in First Class, too.
Do you believe that the dozens of weapons confiscated by TSA personnel over the last couple of years made no difference?
No. Were any of those weapons confiscated involved in a plot to blow up a plane?
A number of them could have been used to defeat the lock on the cockpit, or to kill more than one person on the plane, actually.
As for plots, I wasn't aware that a conspiracy was necessary to do real damage. I missed that in the handbook.
Boo!
Or do you just believe in bringing the level of political discourse down to "just saying the opposite" of whatever the Right does or says, no matter what the merits?
What does this have to do with "the right"? I wasn't aware that security is a partisan subject.
C'mon, Laurie. not too many people on the right have complained publically about the increased level of security/loss of civil liberties. Most of the flack is from the left. It was the ACLU that spoke before Congress, not the John Birch Society.
You think the ACLU is a leftist organization? I thought it was the right who wanted to defend the constitution... you know, the "right" to bear arms... Now it's "leftist" to protect our constitutional rights?
After reading your last few posts, I'm inclined to believe the latter.
There's a nice irony here. When you write about the Middle East, one side(always Israeli, right?) is supposed to lay its arms down, because there is a cycle of violence that just has to stop.
When have I ever said that only Israel needs to lay down arms? I've only said that their tactics are not solving their problems but only creating more enemies for themselves. There are other ways to handle things than more violence.
And I was just wondering this morning which new enemies they've created, that will last past next month.
The difference between the supporters of hezbollah before Israel's latest attack and the 80% who support them now?
That I credit Israel with possessing some sanity and reason and therefore being the ones who should take the first step towards true peace, only shows that I think more highly of them than I do the muslims.
If you take a first step, Laurie, then you must presume that a second step will be forthcoming from someone else.
The rest of your discourse proves the opposite, making your argument self-refuting.
I think muslim culture is the most primitive, violent,
misogynistic and disgusting culture in the world. They are like bees defending their hives. They don't think about it; they just sting whomever disturbs them. Pointing out that that is the reaction you're going to get if you try and take their honey doesn't mean I sympathize with the bees. Pointing out that killing muslim civilians is only going to produce more enemies doesn't mean I sympathize with the muslims; it's simply human nature and culture. The Israelis, on the other hand, should know better than to stoop to their level and to sabotage themselves in that way. Does that make you feel better?
Yeah, I'll be sending some money to the Mogen David Adom in your honor. I just need your last name
so I can get the card emailed over to you from their donor-recognition desk.
Ah, sarcasm instead of hatred... I think I'm reaching you...
That's neat. You basically trust Hizbollah and Hamas more than George W. Bush. I haven't gotten quite to that point yet. You'll know when I do. My posts will be all in caps, and I'll start replying in substance to Patrick's posts. And I'll stop punctuating.
Why do you attribute such nonsense to me when I have never said any such thing? Wow, someone criticizes Israel, and you demonize them... what does that say about you?
How did I "demonize" you, Laurie? By having the nerve to disagree, and point out your
self-contradictions? If you think being disagreed with, and having valid criticisms leveled makes you a
"demon," then you're entirely too sensitive.
No, you demonize me by attributing nonsense to me that I never said. Like the above, saying I trust hizbollah and hamas more than dubya.
Laurie
