Yes that is bull***. You can train them all you want but the bottom
line is they remain animals and as such are there's always going to be
the possibility their animal nature will overcome the training. Any dog
is territorial by nature and will protect his "pack" from what it
perceives a threat and will occasionally want to stake out a higher
position in the "pack's" hierarchy Whats dangerous about these beasts
that were bred to fight is when they break training and go after
innocent passer-bys or turn on a family member they can do a lot more
damage than any other any other breed.

I don't want to diminish what happened to Postal. It is truly terrible
and the owners of the dog should be held responsible. However, I know a
few families who have pit bulls; one has 2 of them. Without exception,
these are wonderful dogs. Gentle, kind, passive. Not what I would have
expected at all. One of them owns a shop in Montclair, and the dog is
typically in the back. I walked into the back of the shop one day, and
the dog looked at me, wagged his tail and came over for me to pet him,
and he had never seen me before. They were both rescued from a shelter
in town before they were put down.

The other one was a stray who "adopted" a family in town. They had no
idea what they were dealing with until they brought the dog to the vet
to be checked out. 7 years later, this dog still has such a gentle
nature that you can take food out of her mouth and she won't object.

I've heard terrible stories about German Shepherds who have never shown
a stitch of aggression, and then turn around and bite a child. I do
agree that, for the most part, Pit Bulls can be truly dangerous animals,
and do have a more aggressive nature than most, but I do strongly
believe that training has a lot to do with it.
