Just watched the first episode, thanks for the heads up as to the
release. Not gonna say where I found hit. :c}

This is the best written show on tv since Arrested Development. Totally
different show, but the same kind of vibe. Confident writing that does
not underestimate the intelligence of the audience as does 99% of tv
and movies. Throws you in the middle of a story line and expects you to
figure out what is going on, which if the writing is good, is easy to
do. Matthew Perry is great. Has a more glamorous role than Bradley
Whitford in the first episode.

I'm hoping perry continues to pull it off as the show continues - a
part
of made his performance so good in the pilot is that his character
is stoned on painkillers - that alone allowed him to outdo Whitford
or anyone else in the cast :-) And I'm betting his momentary
and unasked for time on drugs will mesh at some point with
the recovering character of his partner, who will undoubtedly
have a tough time extending his 8 days sober while under the
pressure of directing Studio 60. (A nice little reversal, btw,
having the sober guy show up stoned to find out his buddy
has fallen off the wagon!)

Very similar photography to TWW - I'd bet they designed the set
specifically with what they had in mind again, as they did with TWW,
and trademark Schlamme stuff like the walk-around opening
onto the set. But some other choice moments such as Jordan's boss
seen distorted through the fishbowl of her glass, and the way
she stood listening to, but not watching, the "Peripheral-Vision
Man" skit on a monitor just behind her. Only thing I balked at in the
whole show was her continual use of that mysterious smile
at the end of a scene, which could easily get to be old
hat if used too much later. Maybe it was just for use in the
pilot (hopefully) where it may have been just a *bit* overdone?

It really is Sports Night with more
confidence and more money. Mike, buy the DVD of Sports Night.

It's up in my Netflix queue - I can't really afford to buy any
dvds right now, so i'm loving Netflix (except for sending
Meet John Doe all the way from Lansing, MI, and me finding
it cracked upon opening...grrr!)

The pre credit opening to Studio 60 is as good an intro to a series as
I can recall.

Agreed. Very well done. Wish they'd release the shows as they're
filmed :-)

Speaking of quality, btw, a lot of people thought Lost had,
well, lost it in Season 2, but I just watched a bunch of S2
eps I had on tape and was hooked back into it immediately.
Really looking forward to S3 of that one, and no longer
really worried how much they reveal about the older
mysteries 9although my frustration factor tends to
grow just after mid-season).

There are a few other promising shows coming up in the fall,
maybe the most promising season I've seen in a long, long
time!

Mike
