Venezuelan list targets Chavez's foes
Opposition supporters say they have been frozen out of jobs, pensions,
scholarships.

CARACAS, Venezuela - Two years after she signed a petition calling for
President Hugo Chavez's recall, Rocio San Miguel remembers having only
a vague sense that she was putting herself at risk.
"A joke circulated that if you signed the petition, your job was gone,"
said San Miguel, a lawyer in an agency attached to the vice president's
office.
"Except it was no joke," said Magally Chang, a coworker.
San Miguel and Chang were among thousands of Venezuelan civil servants
fired after signing the referendum to recall Chavez, the president of
the oil-rich nation, who models himself as the leader of a worldwide
leftist alliance against capitalism and the United States.
My father was working for the Philadelphia Housing Authority when bullyboy
Frank
Rizzo was mayor. When the recall petition drive was launched, he told me
not to
sign it because he feared that Rizzo would retaliate by getting him fired.
But I
guess that's OK because Frankie was a authoritarian ex-cop, not a
socialist,
right, Joe?

did anyone who signed that list get fired?
