Re: Barcelona setlist may 14

I know it is an article of faith on this NG that Landau is the nexis of
evil in the modern world... but from Springsteen's perspective, he
probably sees him as the guy who helped him have the career that he's
had, who stood by him when few others did and saw the potential
greatness in him when the smart crowd (i.e. Columbia Records) didn't.

With Landau, there surely would have been no Darkness, no Nebraska, and
probaby (for better or worse) no BITUSA. He helped Bruce get to where
he wanted to go, and at least in Bruce's mind, he was the only person
who could have done that.

The fact that Landau has stepped away from the producer's role on the
last few discs suggests that, A, he and Bruce realized he's probably
reached him limits in terms of offering new musical ideas, and, B, he's
not the power-mad Svengali/Rasputin we usually paint him as.

Anway, loyalty's a good thing.
