Any ideas on a quality lower priced guitar? A local dealer has suggestedJim, even though I've had good luck with the two instruments I've bought on
these:

ebay has a good deal for about $170 on them. I notice that it says it has
a
"spruce top", but I'm assuming that it's still lacquered.
Other people have suggested something used- any ideas on good brands that
go
for fairly low prices?
I have a brand called a "Vista", but I don't like the sound quality. Not
sure if it's just me not being able to play or if it really is a poorly
made
instrument. Seems like off-brand ones that I've played in stores still
sound better than the one I have, but I know that things always sound and
look better before you buy them.
eBay...a wonderful Japanese Ibanez acoustic and a pretty fine (for the
price) violin, I'm always a bit nervous about buying an instrument without
being able to hold it and play it first.
I'm just figuring I got lucky two times...and that my luck will eventually
run out.
For inexpensive guitars that have some depth and a rich tone....well, I've
started both of my daughters on a Washburn.
And, for the price ($150 - $175), I've got to say that I was really happily
surprised in both instances on how decent they sound.'
There are a few other lower-end (price wise) makes that are out there that
have a pretty rich sound.
If you're not too hung up on where it's manufactured, then there are a lot
of viable choices out there.
For instance there are some who will only by USA-made...which often
requires a bank loan...and others who might broaden their horizons to
Japanese manufactured...but avoid China, Korea and Taiwan (then again, if
one compares a Japanese manufactured Takamine to a non-Japanese model, the
difference is immediately obvious...like day and night...the price
difference is also pretty apparent, with the Japanese models running a few
hundred dollars more).
Even though the Japanese Ibanez that I bought on eBay (and it was bought for
a song) is one of my favorite of all my guitars...I'm still wary of buying
guitars online.
I'm pretty much chalk up my stroke of good luck as an anomaly...
Again, I'd suggest a day or two of pawnshops and music shops...and being
able to spend a chunk of time with whatever six-string you're thinking of...
