Oscar Yawn

I gotta say, if it we're for Josh's nomination, Jon Stewart hosting,
and the hope of PS Hoffman's acceptance speech, I'd be inclined to skip
this years. Just seemed like a non-year..but maybe it's me, since
that's been happening a lot lately (especially since becoming a
parent). Can't tell if it's my own inner shifting alone, or it's
combined with less actual movies to get excited about. Most of the
time I see a trailer, and by the end of it have already decided to skip
the movie. Used to be the opposite. I kow it's partly because trailers
anymore do manage to tellyou pretty muhc every interesting thing that's
going to happen in a story.

Maybe it's seasonal. Maybe this time of year, "awards season" I just
burn out on all the hype and talk, on TV and everywhere else, that ends
up attaching so much importance to these movies. I was with some
friends the other night who were really excited about all the upcoming
awards..and these people arent even in the industry. But they were
going on like it was really importnat stuff, and I realized..hey, I
used to do that too, but I was unable to even comprehend their
excitement. This morning, when the Oscar Noms come out, it starts to
feel like it felt to live in Denver the two weeks prior to the Broncos
superbowl appearances in the 80's. Nothing else is talked about. You
get entirely saturated.

Sigh.

Thank god we've got Stewart in there. If he hits a home ru, maybe
it'll be worth watching for the next few years, 'cause it ain't likely
we'll have an RMASer (or former RMASer) nominated as a regular
occurrence.

Though if Patrick ever decides to write the sotry of his time in the
Coast Gaurd "Based on a true falsehood" ....you never know!
