If there is a biological reason to study these things I can assure you some
biologist somewhere will get around to doing the study. As long as it is
peer reviewed, etc., I don't think many actual scientists (if any) would
have any problems with it.

The only way political correctness comes into the equation is when it is
government sponsored research. In that case the type of research that is
funded is always going to be influenced by politics. Independently financed
researchers can study anything they like. What is happening in this country
to some extent today is large corporations are financing studies that fit
their pre-conceived viewpoints. They are not interested in studying the
types of things you are describing; therefore, there is little money to do
the research. They want to find some hack they can pay to say their product
doesn't really pollute, global warming isn't occurring, etc. The problem
with these people is they will do a study that is not peer reviewed but
simply released to the media. The media has neither the qualifications nor
the expertise to question any assumptions made by these paid hacks so the
articles get written and the public gets confused.

Researchers need to eat. They always have and they always will. They will
study those things that get financed.

As I understand the situation scientists that deal in biology, genetics,
etc. seem to think we use about 10% of our brain. I would say finding a way
to study the brain may be a logical thing to do but it still has to get
financed.
