thanks for all of the thoughts and feedback to my question. It makes a
lot of sense that boxes of stray items are not what's most needed right
now. Eventually, they'll be ready and able to sort thru clothing and
non-essentials like books, but now's not the time. It's frustrating
not to be able to just drive to the people who need food, clothing and
water and hand it to them, but I know rationally that giving cash will
help get that done.

My youngest son told me this morning that Major League Baseball gave a
millions dollars to relief efforts. I responded enthusiastically-"wow,
that's a lot of money. how cool!" He just looked at me like I'd
missed his point entirely and said-"but Mom, do you know how much the
Yankee's payroll is alone?" lol. I love him so much. :) Just like
those Mom's who're watching their kids go without food, clothing and
shelter in New Orleans today.

This is really hard to watch happen. That's selfish, but it's the
truth...
