I'll try to help, but stirring this place up is like trying to stir up a
graveyard. It's an impossible task.

The Nevermore and Opeth were highly awaited by me. The Nevermore disc is
awesome. There's a lot to it and it gets better for me the more I play it.
It's a big time grower, and it's got staying power too.

I've only been able to spin the Opeth two or three times, so I can't say for
sure. It sounds promising, but you kind of have to be in the mood for it.
Opeth isn't really the most seamless listen from start to finish.

I could care less about Helloween these days.

Vision Divine is something I'll look forward too. I actually wasn't aware
that they would have one out this year. Their last one was in my top 5 last
year.

Allen/Lande is a dissapointment for me. It just doesn't stand out to me as
being anything special, and I've like multiple other projects that these
guys have done moreso than this.

Symphony X is always a big hit with me. Russell Allen is at his very best
with them. Romeo is a very kickass guitarist as well, and he's always a
highlight for me.

These guys are done, and have been done for a long time. It's been long
overdue for them to hang em up. Just my opinion.

I'd agree.

The Pagans Mind is pretty good, but it's not up to the level of Celestial
Entrance. It's a little less catchy, and just isn't all that overly
interesting. Good disc, but it was a slight dissapointment for me. Still,
I'd take these guys over 98 percent of the Power Prog bands out there.

Dream Theater - I never gave it much of a chance. I was hoping they would
stay heavy like ToT , and they seemingly went the other way and got pretty
light. Some day I may give it a real shot, but that day isn't really close
at hand.

Russell Allen -- some like it, some hate it. It's a classic rock/hard rock
disc and not really all that metal. It didn't much appeal to me, but I went
into it with a bad attitude about the whole thing.

This has been a strange year for me in metal. I've found myself liking more
death/heavier stuff, and tiring of the countless sound alike prog and power
bands. Still, some prog and power bands are getting thru to me, but my top
10 has a lot of harsher stuff in it.

My #1 is now Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor

#2 Scar Symmetry - Symmetric In Design -- Soilwork/Swano kind of thing.
This is the best melodic death disc I've ever heard. It's incredibly catchy
and pretty accessible for those that are open minded to a little growling
mixed with highly catchy, almost commercial sounding clean vox.

#3 Kreator - Enemy Of God -- I liked it right from the start and it's stayed
high all year.

#4 November's Doom - Pale Haunt Departure - Kind of Opeth like. Mixes death
and clean vox. Also reminds me a bit of Katatonia

That's my top 4 for sure right now. After that it gets hard to judge.
Other discs I've really liked are....

Pantommind - Shade Of Fate
Circus Maximus - The 1st Chaper
Bruce Dickinson - Tyranny Of Souls
Kamelot - The Black Halo
Lalu - Oniric Metal
Lee Z - Shadowlands
Communic - Conspiracy in Mind

there's more, but I can't think of them right now.
