This gets my vote too. Collapsing baffles took the top speed of my son's DNA
from 50mph to 35mph. Nothing else is likely to have such a significant
effect in one go.

Unless you're DatesFat and think "there's something wrong with the
transmission".

I was just tossing out ideas.

A general way to decide which idea to investigate first is to take the approximate product of the probability that it could be a factor times the cost (time and materials) to investigate it; and to hit the highest numbers first.

Clearly, "air filter" is viable as a cause or partial cause and quick to rule out.

"Collapsed baffles" is also viable and should also be fairly quick to rule in our out.

"CVT not reaching its top ratio" is (according to TOG) low probability. I accept that assessment of probability, as I have no experience at all.

With my Honda Shadow, since the gears are discrete, if it didn't reach 70 MPH, I could rule out the gear ratio as a cause (I would notice if it didn't shift from 3rd to 4th).

But with a CVT ... I'm not positive that if the vehicle doesn't reach the expected speed that you could really tell by the feel and sound if the ratio was at the right value.

Just tossing out ideas.

Datesfat doesn't "think something is wrong with the transmission". Datesfat just thinks it is one thing to be checked if nothing else easy and probable bears fruit.
