Re: Need Help Identifying a Part

It is a legitimate question. I actually find exhaust with complete

I will guaran-damn-tee you that you have VERY rarely
experienced exhaust with truly complete combustion in
the normal operation of the engine of just about any motor
vehicle. It's a bit better with some sorts than others, but
I seriously doubt that there are many people here running
around in hydrogen-powered vehicles.

IF gasoline could be assumed to consist of nothing
other than iso-octane (C8H18), and it was ensured of
having sufficient oxygen (and ONLY oxygen) present for a
COMPLETE burn, then the combustion products are nothing
more than carbon dioxide and water, and we wouldn't be
having this discussion. Clearly, this is not the case. For one
thing, gasoline is burned in AIR, not pure oxygen, and that
means you have nitrogen in the mix as well - and you
get various oxides of nitrogen (at least!) out. Those are
officially Nasty. And, of course, gasoline is NOT pure
iso-octane, nor is it assured of burning completely at all
times.

A "troll" is clasically defined as a person who offends to get a
reaction. My question is legitimate. The nature of the question is
essentially, "If there weren't the photochemical / smog reason to
limit unburned hydrocarbon emissions, would there be any other reason
to limit them".

Consider it in this form:

Is there any reason not to just let a big pond of
gasoline evaporate (assuming, of course, you could
somehow ensure that there was no fire hazard)?

It's the exact same thing.
