We all have our experiences, my most recent "rain" ride being just short
of 2000 miles over a 3 day period when I was travelling to Scandinavia
and the thunderstorm I was in was apparently going to the same place at
the same time. 3 days of solid rain and no water got inside my helmet, so
a balaclava or a face mask would've been worthless.

You need a new helmet my lad.

Good advise. My old BMW helmet was so well vented that it blew fine
droplets onto the back of my glasses making them opaque. OTOH cheaper
helmets stay dry on day long rides in the rain.

My lid's a flip-front thing. Noisy without earplugs, but comfortable and so
far utterly rain resistant.
