It's done every day at Boeing or Lockheed Martin.

Aerospace assembly lines have an octopus called DITMCO that checks
continuity
of the major electronic assemblies before they get to final assembly
where technicians like me straighten all the details out and get the
aircraft running.

My rich Uncle Sam taught me how to isolate a fault by the symptoms,
and studying a circuit diagram for a minute or two and then going
*directly* to the fault.

On the first MD-80, we had a problem with the cabin lights circuit
breaker popping.

Yes, we could have pulled down every one of the 100 overhead lighting
panels and checked for a short, but we studied the diagram and went
*directly* to the crossed wires on a terminal board above the rear
lavatory.

The supervisor who witnessed our expert troubleshooting said,
"Gentlemen, I am impressed."

 What's next, you gonna remove the USB ports on your PC and point to
point wire all your peripherals up too?

My *life* does not depend upon my computer working correctly.

OTOH, when my motorcycle engine stalls in an intersection, I want to
be sure that the starter button doesn't have to debate with the horn
button as to which signal to send down the serial bus.
