century. Twice, actually. And we declined. No gratitude is
necessary. It was weakness on our part and the world has recorded
and treated it as such, as well they should have. We had our
chance and blew it. Next time another country will be at the

they whiff at their at-bat.
world wars here?
You honestly think America has the manpower to invade and hold all
the territories in the world!? Phew, delusions of granduer running
free.......
western Europe, Japan, and the South Pacific. We had the atomic bomb
and had demonstrated the will to use it. Which areas of the world
following WWII became the major economic and military powers for the
next 50 years? Was it the eastern bloc? Was it China? No, it
was western Europe, Britain, and Japan.
Would we have held a world empire together through force
indefinitely? Hell no; reading history shows that that is a pipe
dream. Could we have cobbled together an empire far greater than
the greatest world girdling empire ever seen in human history? Of
course we could have. Would we have called it the U.S. Empire?
Hell no, we would've let our Allies share in the ruling; England,
Canada, Australia, and even that nascent world power, New Zealand.
Hell, even after all this time, we still release classified documents
to your lil' ol' country before we do the Germans and the Japanese.
Why do you suppose that is? We like it when you guys play along.
All we would've had to've done was crush the Soviet Union and then
held Russia and China within their borders. I would wager that the
western democracies would be much stronger militarily (sp) and
economically (sp) today had we done so.
All we would have had to sacrifice was the founding ideals and
principles that this country stood for, and for all its faults, still
stands for.
Just because virulent anti-Americanism is the default, de-facto,
world standard of thought today, don't let that keep you from clearly
seeing the truth, Brian!
(I know, I know, it's not anti-Americanism, you just don't like ourYour own countrymen split along those same lines you have drawn.....so

consumption, our tourists, or our cultural imperialism. Other than

decisions etc... It certainly doesn't make me anti-NZ!, and I don't
think she is either. We just have differing views on what we think the
country should be.
But you don't seem to hate New Zealand culture, New Zealand law, New
Zealand freedoms, New Zealand traditions, the New Zealand economy, New
Zealander's approach to ecology, and you certainly don't seem to hate
consumption of motorcycles, fuel for recreational use, and other
profligate energy wastes that the haters of the U.S. inevitably zero
in on. Heck, I've never heard you blame all of the world's ills on
New Zealand, as they so often are laid at the feet of the U.S....
even by many American citizens.
You do a fine job of shoving words into other peoples mouths. To me 'hate' is a strong word not to be thrown about for the hell of it. I don't 'hate' America....thats you saying I do. Just for humor I'll go through your list one by one.....
NZ culture.....the culture I have chosen is 'bogan'. Motorcycles and V8's. Relax all day, party all night. Unlike many of the bogans, I work for my play money, and I don't have play money until all the bills are paid.
NZ law.....I have a 'rap ***', nothing to be proud of, but the law gets bent whenever I feel like it. The gun laws are fair, but the social engineering laws suck (no smacking, youths getting away with assaults because of their age, raise the school leaving age, raise the driving age).
NZ Freedoms.....we have the right to do as the govt. tells us. We have more freedom than some states of Aussie, but thats about it.
NZ traditions.....Maori. Apart from their traditions we are just a little Britain, without all the whingeing Poms.
NZ economy.....Since it's election year, one party tells us the economy is just fine, while the other says it's about to collapse. i have no stocks/bonds/shares/savings so I don't really follow or care about the economy. Week to week living for me.
NZ ecology....more of an ideal than a reality. per head, we have big carbon footprints (mines steel capped as well!). Why our govt. sees fit to 'lead the world' with sustainability is beyond me. We could create a carbon neutral country and the world will still be stuffed unless the big players do something. We can't burn coal in our power stations (too much CO2 emissions) yet we export the coal to Japan so they can burn it....hypocracy and stupidity.....sod the greenies.
heck, youv'e never heard me blame all the worlds ills on America, but I do find it hard to blame NZ for the US invading Iraq based on bull*** and lies? if there is something I don't like, I voice my opinion, nothing is sacred. NZ is far from perfect, we have our fair share of weirdo's and troublemakers.
