The GS750 only had about 38 ft lbs of torque, it should have had at
least 45 ft. lbs for that size engine. But the Suzuki engineers
probably didn't know how to design an airbox that would overcome the
adverse pressure wave returning from the exhaust system around 5K to
7K RPM.
The moto mavens of Cycle Magazine didn't know what was happening
either.
They decribed the flat spot in the GS750's powerband as a "delightful
two stage camshaft" which produced low speed torque for putting around
town and a second stage of high RPM power for getting on the throttle
in the back roads of Angeles National Forest, where they reached 135
mph (going down hill, past the Kentucky shooting range).
