I second David's recommendation of an MP3 player. I've tried most
media - cassettes, CDs, minidisk... They all require you to lug around
a bunch of media. Minidisks were the best for that, but MP3 players
beat them all to hell. When I put the 80gig I-pod in my shirt pocket,
I have ~600 CDs, plus more than a hundred podcasts, a bunch of photos,
and it's still only about half full.
Good to know you've got access to your photos while riding ;-)
I've experimented with ear buds while riding and found music to take a
sufficient amount of bandwidth away from the task at hand to become a
nusiance at best, potentially a danger. If the ride's sufficiently
boring you long for entertainment, you're on the wrong vehicle and/or
road.
Yup, yup, & yup. I almost never listen to music while riding any more,
but if you are stuck on an Interstate with 800 miles between you and
home, and you have to be at work tomorrow...
Also, you aren't _always_ in the saddle. I carry my I-pod almost all
the time. It comes in handy if I'm waiting for a meeting, or like last
week when I needed a bid for a job. I went to the shop and showed them
pics of what needed to be done.
