This morning I committed the sin of removing the very loud Vance and
Hines Ovals from my Road King and replacing them with the Harley 49
State legal Touring Mufflers. Now it's probably not as quiet as stock
but it has to be very close.

Damn that motor makes a lot of noise. lol

It was a relatively painless procedure even for the mechanically inept
like me. Aside from snapping one clamp bolt, which is still stuck in
what used to be my only 1/2" socket, the procedure was a snap. I
replaced those crappy clamp bolts with grade eights.

But is it ever quiet! The Venture is again the loudest bike I own.

After just a short test spin I don't think the swap sapped any HP. In
fact it feels faster although that might be the fact it is making a
while bunch less noise while generating the same speed.

All in all I am happy with the change, but don't interpret this as my
condemnation of loud pipes. Yes I think the obnoxiously loud straight
baffleless pipes should be melted down for scrap metal, but few people
I know actually use those pipes. That said if someone wants to run
pipes that make more of an audible impression, good for them. The
increased noise is just not for me. Neither does it bother me when I
hear loud pipes on other bikes.

So now I have a set of Vance & Hines Ovals in near perfect condition
for sale. If anyone is interested I can snap a few pictures and send
them to you.

Maybe "Ari" has a Harley by now and would like to buy them!

BTW, congrats on the new pipes, glad you like them, glad that they
don't seem to reduce your power, and sheesh, if I weren't spending
every dollar I have racing, I would say let's get the hell out and go
for a ride. But alas, maybe next year!
