If everybody did that, then there soon would be nothing to try on at the
local store.

I rarely buy *anything* from a motorcycle $tealer$hip. They usually
don't understand the concept of the customer being a person with
certain fixed ideas and special needs in differing financial
circumstances and they try to sell whatever they have to him.

The smart aleck kids in the $tealer$hips often know less about
motorcycles than I do, they are often the relatives of the owner or
one of the mechanics, and that's how they got a job in the parts and
accessories department.

The local Kawasaki dealer has a youngster behind the parts counter.
He's a pleasant young man who seems to know his job. The local Harley
partsman is hard to find in the winter. More than once I've had to
stand around for 5 or 10 minutes before someone asks me if I need
parts or I ask for the partsman. They page him and he shows up. He's
a nice enough guy too, and gets me the correct parts. Prices are high
at both places, but I try to support local business.

With a few exceptions, I trust auto dealer salesmen about as far as I
can throw them, and I have a bad back.
