You meant Pop3 technology.

No, I meant smtp technology. POP is what your email client connects to
when it wants to receive your mail. SMTP is what external POST servers
connect to when they want to deliver mail destined for your domain.

Like I said, I'm old school. I was doing this stuff before you were
born. <g>

If the mail server catches the spam at smtp helo phase or around
there, through the use of rbl servers, greylisting, reverse IP
validation, etc., then it never has to be filtered at the POP
transaction phase at all, because it never makes it into anyones'
mailbox to begin with.

POP client spam filters are for those who are not mail server admins
and don't control what enters the domain through the border routers.

My mail clients don't have to run POP client filters, they don't get
more than a couple spam email a year, and those they just forward to
me and I make sure the spam gets dealt with.
