Am searching for probably a slightly larger cruiser. I'm thinking Honda
Shadow Aero or the Honda Shadow 750. Just a touch more power, but about
the same gas mileage and same comfort.
Also, check out the Star line. V-Star 1100 in the mid-size range, and
the Road Star in the big twins.
I've owned a 2000 V-Star 1100 and currently own a 2007 Shadow 750 (C2
Shaft drive).
The V-Star is a great handling bike, has good grunt and it's a real
looker t'boot. However, it's very buzzy at highway speed and numbed
my hands big time. As you will invariably read elsewhere, it really,
really needs a 6th gear! If you should purchase, buy and install an
oil filter relocation kit as the placement of stock filter is just...
well, it's STUPID. Otherwise, a very solid bike with a good
reputation for longevity.
The Shadow is a very smooth machine. Doesn't have the nuts of the
Star, but for a 750 it's fine. For riding single, it's a fun machine.
Riding two-up is less so. Very sharp looking and a bargain price. I
paid $6200. I'm sure you could find one used for up to 2K less.
I got the Shadow at the same time I got the wife a used Suzuki Savage
650. If or when she outgrows the Savage, she'll get the Shadow and
I'll get something bigger - probably a VTX 1300.
David, throwing in my 2 cents
