The previous advice given to me was that anything more than a 2-foot drop
should get the helmet replaced. Are you telling me I can be more
liberal?
It's like everything else - the only honest answer to the
question is a nice, definite, "it depends." It's not
like any drop on to any surface from a height of 1 foot,
11.95 inches and the helmet's guaranteed to be just
fine, while at 2 feet and 0.005 inches it's ALWAYS
ruined. A six foot drop onto wet, muddy grass, fer
instance, is a different thing than three feet onto
concrete.
I understand.
And, there is an added advantage to getting a new helmet.
I can beat the crap out of my old one with a variety of objects (starting
with an aluminum baseball bat, perhaps) and see how much energy it soaks up.
I'm kind of curious about how tough the composites are. I'll put the video
on YouTube.
I'd be very receptive if anyone suggests some abuse tests they'd like to
see. I haven't thought about it much.
Or, I could drill holes in the top and mount it upside-down as the top story
of some cat furniture. Cats tend to prefer tight spaces ...
I haven't figured out how to make a coffee cup out of it.
I could paint it and make a "Power Rangers" costume for Halloween.
Any other ideas?
