motorcycle bags

This isn't a question about which is the best, more a terminology clarification.

My old CB550 has a milk crate bolted to the luggage rack on the back - behind the pillion back rest. While I don't have a problem with the milk crate, it works, it does make it tough to carry items sensitive to the wind and/or items sensitive to getting knocked around. So I'm digging through the luggage options but find that I'm not quite sure what to call that position. The term I hear is sissy bar, but that doesn't sound right. It isn't a roll bag, handlebar bag, tank bag, saddlebag, so what else do I call this position?

Second, since my bike has a luggage rack already on it as part of the rear fender, would an aftermarket bag bolt right on or would I need to swap out the luggage rack first?
