So we lose DC, LA, and NYC. And this is a bad thing because?
Note that if a bunch of people are suddenly displaced then they
will
need housing and services which means new opportunities.
Which they will get for free by the government bailing them out,
just
as it is giving free money to people displaced by Katrina.
Huh? Nobody gets "opportunities" for free from the government. If a
bunch of people need housing then somebody has to build it and and
that somebody is going to expect to be paid. If a new port is needed,
somebody has to build it, and that somebody is going to expect to be
paid. This has ramifications for the rest of the economy.
Do not
underestimate
the political power of NYC. They will happily shaft the economy for
the rest of the country just to keep themselves afloat. Hell, they
got a couple buildings knocked down by terrorists and look at how
much money the government has spent as a result of that.
How much, exactly, that benefited New York?
Geez, reasoning like that would suggest that WWII was for the benefit
of Hawaii.
