Which format do you prefer personally?
I have HD-DVD but it appears at this point in time I picked the wrong
one.

Neither,. They both look really fake to me. I like film.

Somehow I knew this would be your answer.

I still think HD-DVD will win. It's so much cheaper to manufacture and
the prices will be far less for the consumer.

Since when have format wars been decided on technical merit?

I'm not saying one is going to win over the other, but I am saying
the contest absolutely will not be decided based on a dispassionate
logical analysis of the technologies.

PS Announcements about the imminent demise of the original DVD format
are premature.

This is true.
Less than .5% of movies sold are HD or BluRay.

As do I. People look at me like I crawled out from under a rock when I
refer to having "taped" something*. They always think at first that
I'm just still using archaic terminology until I explain that no, I
still actually haveb a machine you have to put the little cartridges
in, and they're all like "That is SO 1980s!"

*Ok, most folks' reaction to me is like I just crawled out from a
under a rock whether I mention tapes or not. I have requested on the
basis of being somewhat sensitive to be called "troglodyte" instead of
"ape"...
