Re my previous posting, "[ot] Need help with van draining battery",
my '95 Plymouth Voyager drains the battery when parked.
Using the touch-and-spark ammeter method, I started pulling fuses
as suggested.
The culprit seems to be associated with a fuse marked:
"15 AMP IGN OFF DRAW". When I pull this fuse, no sparks.
I dunno what circuit would want to draw power when the ignition
is off, but until I find the real problem I guess it's easier
to pull this fuse when I'm parked rather than disconnect the battery.
My off the cuff guess is you have a glovebox or underhood lamp
that is staying on when it isn't supposed to. And keep in mind
that just because you don't see a light on, that the circuit
isn't drawing some current. I had an Aerostar van that would
drain the battery due to one of the overhead lamps being left
on-- but the bulb didn't even glow. There was a high resistance
in the switch, so not enough current available to make the bulb
light, but enough to drain the battery if left on overnight.
Hard to find if you don't consider all the possibilities.
Take a look at the wiring diagram in a service manual to see
what circuits that fuse supplies. Any decent public library
should have a manual you can use.
