Usually much less, but then, it depends on the bike. My Concours, for example, with a 7.5 gallon tank, switches to reserve after I use about 6 gallons. I have approximately 1.5 gallons in the reserve.

My CB750F, goes on reserve after about 4 gallons. I'm not really sure of the tank size on that one though.
