I felt like I was leaning a lot more than that. I guess that would
explain why I have 10-12mm of pristine tire (chicken strips) on the
rear. My bike is capable of about 52 degrees of lean before bottoming
out. I should be able to do 45 degree leans rather casually.
Needless to say, I'm rather disappointed with my current level of
skill.
Country roads are just not conducive to the use of a lot of lean angle, a
sportrider just zig zags as the road goes around obstacles that the
engineering budget didn't allow to be removed.
Mountain roads like the Angeles Crest allow a rider to use more lean angle
around long sweeping high speed turns, but the fact that it's a mountain road
means that the rider sometimes cannot see all the way around a curve because
the mountain side is in the way and the rider is outrunning his line of sight
or stopping distance at higher speeds.
Sportriders in the midwest go "ramping". If you can find a nice deserted
freeway cloverleaf, you can go up and down and around and around the
cloverleaf.
Before you commit to a lot of lean angle, be sure the ramps aren't slick with
oil, antifreeze or transmission fluid.
