With new meds and facing my problems straigh on. (was angry for years after
deer accident) and was taking it out on the on line people, I feel it's
time at for me to try to make emends with you (Rayvan) and anyone else I've
pissed off in Reeky. You don't have to reciprocate but it would be nice.
To Rayvan, As you may have recalled, I've had several RD-350's and one
RD-400 Daytona Special back in the seventies.
You also know I'm handicapped extensively from a deer MC collision in 2004.
I'd been riding the Truimph Sprint ST until early this year with no rear
brake as my right foot/ankle is a prosthetic now. Also the Sprint was
tipped over four times at a stop when the ground was not level enough to
balance it.Now I have a thumb rear brake on the Yamaha.
So I sold the Sprint and bought a 1984 Yamaha RZ-350 (nearly new) from a guy
in Pennsylvania that deals just is pristine old two strokes like the
500Gamma, Square 4 500cc Yammi, My bike and the Honda 400cc V3, all in low
mileage never dropped condition. Anyway I could have bought a new naked
SV-650 with what I've got in this 23 year old 310lb, 60RWHP bike,
So far I like it a a lot. The power valve gives it a powerband a lot like a
600SS. and I've clocked it at 125 with my little GPS unit. And BTW the
Speedo is dead on at 100 or less. Also, it's Red & white with blue trim and
I hand start it and turn it around on the center stand in the garage. This
bike, considering the lack of my right leg and weakened heart is near
perfect for canyon riding. It has no problem hanging with the big liter
bikes on tight canyon roads and will cruise up to 90 at 110 degrees
outside, (Switched to Engine ICE)

Good to hear from you
Thanks, you too.
I like your spirit, Bob, and I admire the heck out of your will to
ride. Heck I'd probably get a little onery also if I was missing half
a leg and couldn't easily ride anymore... I hope that if I'm ever
dealt the blows that you've taken in the last few years that it won't
keep me off a bike either.
Thanks again:)
The RZ 350 sounds like the way to go for a man in your condition,-------------------------------------------------------------
though I'm wondering how you kick start it. I know mine started up
first kick if I used it alot. If I let it sit for a couple of weeks
I'd have to kick it several times or more. How do you do it?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I put it on prime for 6 seconds, pull out the enrichener, turn on the
ignition in neutral then use my left hard to start while holding the
trottle open just a bit. Two-three hand pushes is all it takes and
sometimes only once. (low compression two stroke I guess. All my RD
were similar in ease of starting.
Don't know if you've ever seen the pics of the RZ that I owned for a
while...
It had a German "Telefix" body kit on it and clip ons/rear sets etc.
Sure turned a lot of heads!http://www.pbase.com/rayvan/image/43470859http://www.pbase.com/rayvan/image/43470857http://www.pbase.com/rayvan/image/43470811
I don't kow if it was my 210 lbs, or if it was just too much power for
the old steel frame, but when I had the bike over 110 mph and
excelerating, it would start a slow weave. It's likely not to be a
problem if you're not as (ahem) large as I am.
Mine's the same but only on a big sweeping turn. New rear shock,
Maybe?
On a winding road, the bike was the most fun I've ever had on two
wheels. Tossing it around it felt like a bicycle and I felt like a
World Superbike rider on it. The sound was fantastic when it got "on
the pipe" in the straights. With about 70 HP on hand, If I leaned back
just right when it got in the powerband, the front wheel would slowly
come off the ground in third gear. Almost as good as sex!
Yup, I didn't have to give up much on power, just a 125 limited top
speed. That's enough for me.
It would sure be nice if one could still opt for new extremely light
weight two-stroke machines for exactly the reasons you need it for,
but the EPA just won't let that happen it seems. That sucks. I simply
*can't imagine* these small engined bikes posing *any* measurable
damage to the ecology and it pisses me off that they've been
legistated off the market like that...
Yup, =Seven gas weed whackers and it only get's run a couple of hours
on the weekend.
Thanks Rayvan and everyone else who responded.
