Learn Spanish, unless you like to hear "eh?" a lot. Helps to turn
on the closed-captioning to English on the free over-the-air TV

Funny - if I were to move to some other country to live, or
work short term, I would expect that they would expect that I would
work very hard on learning their language.

Not in the USA, boy howdy ! There are people who's native
languages cover 300 + languages, and the government is expected to
provide services in ALL of them.
