It's an '06 K1200GT. Just got it out of the shop due to some ingrate
tipping it over while I was asleep at a motel. Cost around $5K for
the
stuff to get replaced to make it look new again - then this crap
happens.
OUCH! That Huuuuuuuuurts!
You can topple a Boxer with little or no damage. But, why aren't there
frame sliders on the GT?
Think BMW did that on purpose?
Dunno, but my damn insurance took a hit up to $1K a year for the
privilege
of no sliders. Damn BMW exhaust pipe cost $1400! Fairing with the
little
glove box was another $630 or so. Not too cheap for a spill. And the
bad
guys got away.
One of the reasons I put the Scorpio alarm on it. It will let me know
(two-way communication) if something happens or if someone is messing
with
it from nearly 1/8 mile away. Least I may get my $500 deductible out
of
someone.
That new fangled BMW Can-Bus won't allow you to tinker with the brake
lights or add a modulator. Bike has no fuses and all overloads are
controlled and cycled on/off by the Can-Bus brain. It'll even shut
your
heated riding suit off (like Thumper's did) unless you wire it
directly
to the battery.
True, I have no good things to say about Canbust, yet. My K1200GT is
going in for electrical difficulty, again, on Tuesday.
Mine was the fuel tank gauge which refused to act as though the tank
were
full when it was. Other than that, it's been pretty good overall --
and
plenty fast enough for me. They did some software mod as well as a
wire
move (all under warranty). Oh some weird oil filler cap change out
where
supposedly water would condense and cause pressure to build up and bust
the oil tank making the rear tire's traction a little less important.
B~
Yes, she's plenty fast for me, as well. Fast enough to go to jail.
I'm printing your message to take with me to the dealer on Tuesday. I
know
of the software download, but I didn't know about the oil filler cap
problem. Although, after 5000 miles, I haven't had any problems with the
bike, just the Canbus stuff..
Hey, B. and Thumps. Do you know about www.advrider.com? Lotsa BMW riders
there with technical knowledge about these bikes.
Thanks Woof. I belong to Advrider.com. My handle is Thumper.
Here's another group I belong to that may be of some interest to B.
