UVA causes sunburn. UVB doesn't, but is still dangerous, according to recent media reports.
Um, actually, UVA causes sun tans and wrinkles, while UVB causes sun burns and skin cancer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet#Skin)
Point of Trivia: UVA, UVB, and UVC did not originally refer to different bands of UV energy; they originally were medical terms for different kinds of ultraviolet LAMP. A UVA lamp is what the rest of us call a Sun Lamp -- used to promote tanning, UVB lamps are used by dermatologists to treat some skin conditions, and UVC lamps (a.k.a., germicidal lamps) are used in sterilizers, air purifiers, etc.
