Good Habits and Bad Habits

I took the MSF Basic Rider Course last year, and a few weeks ago I
found and bought a used starter bike for a reasonable price (1981
Suzuki GS 650 GL)

The MSF was enough to get your feet wet, and teach you the very basics
of operation, but it was ... basic.

So now I am trying to learn to ride on the mean streets ... and one of
the things I am realizing is that much of the way you ride and the
things you do will be done as habits.
So, since I am just starting out I can learn to do things the right
way, or the wrong way; and whatever I learn now will probably stick ...

So, I am asking you to relate what habits you think are good to learn.
Even more interestingly, what bad habits have you picked up that you
wish you hadn't.

I already have (and wear) a helmet, gloves, and boots.
I will get a jacket and pants.
