We did some demonstrations with thermite. Start a magnesium strip burning
with a Bunsen burner, which starts the thermite starter which ignites the
thermite. It looked a lot like this one:

Interesting side effect came shortly thereafter. The city put a bunch of
parking meters around our campus to capture revenue from those of us
unwilling to park on campus (hell no you are not searching my car). One
night they were all destroyed. Magnesium strips were inserted via the coin
slots into the meter and then ignited. Instant meltdown.

For some of us monkey wrenching is a time honored tradition.
